Celebrating Edna Welch’s 48 years of service to Central

Saturday, March 30, Central’s congregation celebrated Central’s long-time secretary Edna Welch, who started working at the church in 1971.  She was honored at a gala dinner with a program of her favorite scriptures, favorite hymns, numerous thank yous and a hilarious skit reacting “Edna’s last workday.”  Sarah Chaplin and Christy Bost played the parts of Edna and Kay McDaniel, her decades-long friend and co-worker.

Bobbi Denny and Linda Hall planned the event and wrote the script that portrayed Edna reminiscing about Rev. George Needham having the vision to move Central to its Albemarle Road location and “then he left, and I’ve had to run things ever since.”  Numerous incidents were recalled about Edna “courageously entering the computer age” as well as training each pastor who served Central.

Several members and former pastors complimented her work and life as being a “Servant of the Lord” and “solid as a rock.”
